What is the scope of oral pathology? This is the question I am asked most often. But unfortunately, there is no easy answer.
My answer differs on many factors; among them is do I need to type the answer, in which case I am embarrassed to say I go the shortcut route. (Hey, I love oral pathology, not typing)
Humour aside, for the most part, the answer is generally influenced by 25 years of personal experiences – 5 teaching posts, a lab, a rural clinic, a PhD subverted by the pandemic and a youtube channel. An experience that may be interesting but is not routine and not a reflection on the scope of oral pathology.
So, this week I will approach the question not based on my personal experience but based on some general observations. I hope you will join me in finding the correct answer together.
