SUMMARY:Diagnostic Errors in Head and Neck Region - Understanding the Neurocognitive Basis
DESCRIPTION:In this live stream we will delve into a critical issue that affects patient well-being on a global scale – diagnostic errors in the complex realm of head and neck diseases.Did you know that the head and neck disease diagnosis have a discrepancy rate of 4.9%? Shockingly\, 1.7% of these cases have moderate to noticeable impacts on patient care. But it doesn’t stop there. The World Health Organization’s 2016 report revealed that diagnostic errors in primary care contribute to 10% of patient deaths and 17% of adverse events in hospitals. In this insightful lecture\, we’ll explore the neurocognitive basis of these errors. We’ll uncover how cognitive biases\, heuristics\, and metacognition impact the interpretations and reasoning processes of pathologists\, clinicians\, and radiologists. And more importantly\, we’ll discuss strategies to prevent\, detect\, and correct these errors.By understanding the neurocognitive mechanisms behind these mistakes\, we can enhance the quality and safety of diagnoses and ultimately improve patient care.Stay tuned for an eye-opening exploration of the neurocognitive basis of diagnostic errors.” \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nClick on the video to watch/ click on watch on YouTube to place a reminder \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by:\n\n\n\nDr. Mandana Donoghue Founder- DirectorOral Pathology 360Dr. Mandana Donoghue | LinkedIn \n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker: \n\n\n\nProf. Rooban Thavarajah is the distinguished Professor of oral and maxillofacial pathology at Ragas Dental College and Hospital\, Chennai. SUMMARY:An Introduction to Tooth Pathology-Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Despite our increasing knowledge of the genetic basis of many abnormalities of teeth\, histological assessment still has a role to play in the diagnosis of these\, often rare\, conditions. Additionally\, there are limited resources available for updates in this area which are relevant to the practice of an oral pathologist. \n\n\n\nLecture Objectives:• Provide a brief overview of molecular aspects of tooth development.• Cover aspects of the practicalities of dealing with teeth as pathological specimens• Provide an overview of a range of developmental and acquired conditions affecting teeth \n\n\n\n Click on the video to watch/ click on watch on YouTube to place a reminder \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by:\n\n\n\nDr. Mandana Donoghue Founder- DirectorOral Pathology 360Dr. Mandana Donoghue | LinkedIn \n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker: \n\n\n\nProf. Keith Hunter is an esteemed histopathologist specializing in Molecular and Clinical Cancer Medicine at the University of Liverpool\, UK\, and Liverpool University NHS Foundation Trust. He embarked on his academic journey by completing a PhD at the CRUK Beatson Institute for Cancer Research in Glasgow and received clinical training at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. In 2009\, he made a significant move to the University of Sheffield\, where he established a pioneering research group. Their focus was on understanding the transcriptional changes occurring at different stages of oral precancer and cancer development\, particularly delving into the control of cellular immortalization of keratinocytes and aspects of the tumor microenvironment. \n\n\n\nIn 2022\, Professor Hunter further enriched his career by joining the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre. His academic contributions extend beyond the lecture hall\, as he has authored over 120 peer-reviewed articles and made notable contributions to various books\, including the 2022 WHO Classification of Tumours of the Head and Neck. He is also a co-author of the 5th edition of Soames and Southam’s Oral Pathology. \n\n\n\nProfessor Keith Hunter’s research laboratory primarily focuses on the tumor microenvironment in head and neck cancers\, with a particular emphasis on oral cavity and oropharynx cancers. This includes a comprehensive exploration of the clinical pathology and biology of Potentially Malignant Disorders of the oral cavity\, characterized by extensive collaborations and links to industry in this vital area of study.
