DESCRIPTION:This presentation is part 1 of a 2 part series on Must know Concepts in research. \n\n\n\n\n\nPart 1Introduction VariablesConcepts: Sample size: Hypothesis\, alpha\, p-valuePart 2BetaEffect Size\n\n\n\n\n\nProfessor Umadevi K RaoProfessor of Oral & Maxillofacial PathologyRagas Dental College\, Chennai\, India \n\n\n\n\n\nThis lecture discusses the concepts of estimating the sample size\, which must be considered when planning an analytical study.Investigators involved in clinical\, epidemiological\, or translational research have the drive to publish their results so that they can extrapolate their findings to the population. This begins with the preliminary step of deciding the topic to be studied\, the subjects\, and the type of study design. In this context\, the researcher must determine how many subjects would be required for the proposed study. Thus\, the number of individuals to be included in the study\, i.e.\, the sample size\, is an important consideration in the design of many clinical studies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDr. Rao has a stellar career with numerous achievements \n\n\n\nRecipient of the Tamil Nadu Young Women’s Scientist Award in the field of Medical Sciences for the year 2004.Recipient of the Fogarty Fellowship\, Department of Epidemiology and Bio-statistics of University of Berkeley\, California (USA) as a research scholarFellowship in the field of oral pathology and oral medicine at the University of California\, San Francisco (USA).Recipient of the best Teacher award\, awarded by The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. SUMMARY:Oral epithelial dysplasia - A master of disguise
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Gerber completed his Bachelor of Dentistry from Latin University\, Costa Rica. 2013Specialist in Pathology and Oral Medicine\, University of Valparaíso\, Chile. 2018Currently\, he is a resident of the Master’s program in Stomatopathology at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP)\, Brazil\, and a Professor of Oral Pathology at Latin University\, Costa Rica. \n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\nOral squamous cell carcinoma is often preluded by silent superficial changes related to epithelial dysplastic processes led by mutations. Ignoring these changes could delay the correct diagnosis of potentially malignant lesions\, thus allowing a feared malignant transformation.So\, let’s take a look at this clinical case\, highlighting the importance of:• Cautiously studying the lesion prior to biopsy• Using all possible clinical data when analyzing the sample under a microscope• Performing a correct clinicopathological correlation• Carefully observing possible early changes of oral epithelial dysplasia• Making the patient understand the need to stay under control over time

DESCRIPTION:Watch it on our channel https://youtu.be/nz1ceNm6CqQ \nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com \nDr. Punnya Angadi Rao\, MDS\, DNB\, PG Dip (Bioethics)\, Ph.D\nProfessor and Head\nDepartment of Oral Pathology and Microbiology\nKLE VK Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital \nOral pathology encompasses a wide variety of lesions\, including various cysts and tumors of different origins\, infections\, developmental\, skin\, and bone disorders\, as well as metabolic disturbances. The histopathologic diversity exhibited by these lesions enthralls us as one sees a wide variation among them from what is considered “Typical” as per textbook descriptions. This slide seminar will try to capture this essence of histopathologic examination and highlight the typical as well as deviations in a mixture of lesions with an aim to generate interest in the subject that lingers on just as the fragrance of a potpourri. \n
