SUMMARY:Oral Submucous Fibrosis- A primer
DESCRIPTION:Find everything you need to know about Oral Submucous fibrosis in this recorded lecture by Dr K. Rangnathan \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this video\, Dr Ranganthan\, a world-renowned expert on the topic\, delves into the world of Oral Submucous Fibrosis (OSF)\, an oral potentially malignant disorder with a malignant transformation rate of 1.3 – 23%. The primary cause of OSF is the consumption of areca nut\, the fourth most commonly consumed substance globally\, after tobacco\, alcohol\, and caffeine. Shockingly\, around 10%‐20% of the world’s population consumes areca nut in various forms\, with an estimated 600 million chewers worldwide. In India alone\, 223.79 million people consume areca nut. OSF is a debilitating condition characterized by fibrosis and atrophy of the epithelium\, and its morbidity is unique\, varying regionally depending on the type of areca nut consumed. In addition\, the atrophic changes make diagnosing dysplasia challenging and prognosticating malignant transformation a hurdle. In this presentation\, we will explore OSF’s clinical\, histological\, and molecular aspects. We hope to shed light on this unique condition and help raise awareness of its severity.

DESCRIPTION:Time converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the lecture:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOral cancer is a significant health concern\, ranking as the 16th most common cancer in the world in 2020. As health professionals\, it’s crucial to stay informed about effective strategies for preventing and managing this disease. \n\n\n\nAccording to a panel of experts at the International Agency for Research on Cancer\, there is strong evidence to suggest that smoking\, areca nut (with and without tobacco)\, and heavy alcohol consumption are significant risk factors for oral cancer. Therefore\, as health professionals\, we must educate our patients about the dangers of these habits and encourage them to quit. Furthermore\, behavioural intervention has been found to be effective in helping adults quit smokeless tobacco\, and we should consider incorporating such interventions into our practice. \n\n\n\nEarly detection is also vital in managing oral cancer. Group *B evidence suggests screening high-risk individuals through clinical oral examination can reduce mortality rates from oral cancer. As health professionals\, we should prioritize identifying patients who may be at risk for prompt and regular screening. \n\n\n\nAs health professionals\, we have a crucial role to play in preventing and managing this disease\, and this session will equip us with the knowledge and tools we need to do so effectively. By attending this session\, you will learn about the following details on Oral Cancer. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrevention\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrimary & Secondary Strategies for prevention- including risk factor identification\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEarly Detection\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEarly detection of potentially malignant disorders \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCessation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Effective cessation strategies\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n*Read about  Levels and Grades of Evidence • LITFL • CCC Research \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr Ravi Mehrotra MD\n\n\n\nMember\, Scientific Council IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization & Founder\, Centre for Health\, Innovation and Policy FoundationDr Mehrotra is passionate about preventing cancer. As a Physician-Scientist\, his expertise covers the gamut of diagnostics\, epidemiology\, and prevention. SUMMARY:"Navigating the “Triple O” Intersection:
DESCRIPTION:A Discussion on Interdisciplinary Teamwork\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLive Discussion; Hosted By: Dr. Mandana Donoghue \n\n\n\nGuests: Dr. Shesha Prasad (Oral & Maxillofacial Medicine and Radiology) Dr. Kaushik Pai. S.H. (Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon) Dr. Abhishek Bhadranna (Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologist \n\n\n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the topic\n\n\n\nImagine a dental puzzle where each piece represents a different specialty\, and the goal is to fit them together seamlessly to provide the best care for patients. This is the concept of interdisciplinary teamwork in dentistry. This video will delve into one of the most complex intersections – the “triple O” of oral pathology\, oral medicine\, and oral surgery. \n\n\n\nUnderstanding the “triple O”: Each specialty plays a crucial role in the dental puzzle\, but it can be challenging to navigate their limitations\, overlapping boundaries\, and expectations without proper communication. Oral pathology and oral medicine share diagnostic activities using diagnostic aids that range from molecular to clinical\, requiring seamless interaction across\, at times\, unclear boundaries. Oral medicine and oral surgery are the management arms\, treating patients using non-surgical and surgical modalities\, which brings complexities and confusion. \n\n\n\nThe Challenges: Each specialty faces challenges\, from technical and technological limitations to patient expectations. The way forward is to understand and respect each other’s limitations and leverage each other’s strengths to provide the best patient care possible. Join us for a live discussion on the topic. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Guests: \n\n\n\nDr. Kaushik Pai is a highly skilled Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery\, a Master of Dental Surgery\, and a Fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery. SUMMARY:The State of AI in early Clinical Detection of Oral Potentially Malignant Disorders
DESCRIPTION:The incidence of oral cancer continues to rise worldwide while the prognosis remains poor\, with an overall 5-year survival rate <50%. Most patients present with late-stage disease because early-stage oral cancers and oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs) are often asymptomatic and mimic benign conditions. Therefore\, novel methods are needed for an early\, accurate diagnosis to aid clinical decision-making. This lecture will focus on emerging artificial intelligence tools used for early cancer detection and how the development of machine learning models might increase the diagnostic accuracy of OPMDs in the Dental setting. \n\n\n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com

This begins with the preliminary step of deciding the topic to be studied\, the subjects\, and the type of study design. In this context\, the researcher must determine how many subjects would be required for the proposed study. Thus\, the number of individuals to be included in the study\, i.e.\, the sample size\, is an important consideration in the design of many clinical studies. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTime converter at worldtimebuddy.comTime converter at worldtimebuddy.com\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nDr. Rao has a stellar career with numerous achievements \n\n\n\nRecipient of the Tamil Nadu Young Women’s Scientist Award in the field of Medical Sciences for the year 2004.Recipient of the Fogarty Fellowship\, Department of Epidemiology and Bio-statistics of University of Berkeley\, California (USA) as a research scholarFellowship in the field of oral pathology and oral medicine at the University of California\, San Francisco (USA).Recipient of the best Teacher award\, awarded by The Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R.
