Dr. Pramod Krishna B
Advancing Conservative Surgical Approaches in Maxillofacial Pathology
Dr. Pramod Krishna B is a Professor and Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at BGS Global Institute of Medical and Dental Sciences, Bengaluru, with extensive expertise in maxillofacial trauma, TMJ surgery, and maxillofacial pathology. He holds a BDS, MDS, and additional training in educational methodology (RGUHS) and biomedical research (ICMR).
An active leader in the field, Dr. Krishna has served as a chairperson, moderator, and panelist at multiple conferences organized by the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India (AOMSI) and the Indian Dental Association (IDA). He has also been an invited guest speaker at the AOMSI Master Class and a keynote speaker at scientific conferences. His contributions to academia and professional development earned him the role of Joint Secretary of the AOMSI Karnataka State Chapter.
About the Lecture:
Aggressive Benign Odontogenic Neoplasms (ABONs) present significant clinical challenges due to their invasive nature, substantial growth potential, and the tendency for recurrence beyond clinical and radiological margins. Historically, treatment of ABONs has favored aggressive resections, often resulting in severe postoperative deformities. Although reconstructive surgeries like microvascular flap reconstructions are available, these procedures are expensive, highly invasive, and typically reserved for malignant lesions.
Given that ABONs are inherently benign, a conservative yet effective approach is essential for optimal patient outcomes. Traditional conservative treatments, including enucleation, marsupialization, and curettage, remain foundational, yet curettage alone is insufficient for ABONs. Enucleation is effective for smaller lesions; however, larger lesions necessitate more comprehensive strategies, such as enucleation combined with open packing and adjunctive procedures like peripheral ostectomy and chemical cauterization using modified Carnoy’s solution.
This lecture presents detailed insights from a series of ABON cases managed conservatively and monitored through extensive follow-up periods. It underscores the principle of conservative management: prioritizing safety and maintaining patient quality of life while retaining the ability to manage recurrences effectively if they arise.
Join this session to explore refined strategies for managing challenging jaw cysts and tumors, supported by evidence-based clinical outcomes and practical guidance for conservative interventions.
