A Captivating Collection of Clinical Oral Pathology Cases

This presentation will demonstrate the wide spectrum of clinical oral pathology cases that may be encountered in a specialty practice. These challenging cases range from oral manifestations of systemic diseases to mucosal diseases to rare malignancies.
Lecture Objectives:
- To present an interesting case of an oral manifestation of systemic disease.
- To discuss the diagnosis and management of complex oral autoimmune diseases.
- To reinforce that rare/atypical malignancies can also occur in the oral cavity.
Dr. Sonal S. Shah
Dr. Sonal S. Shah is a board-certified oral pathologist and oral medicine clinician. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. In addition to teaching and signing out cases in the UNLV Oral Path Biopsy Service, she diagnoses and treats patients with a wide range of oral lesions and diseases in the UNLV Faculty Dental Practice. Dr. Shah has over 15 years of experience in both academia and private practice. She was previously faculty at New York University and was appointed Director of the NYU Oral Medicine Clinic. After leaving NYU, she maintained 2 clinical oral pathology private practices in New York City.
Dr. Shah has given presentations and CE courses at numerous national meetings and dental societies. She holds several leadership positions in the American Academy of Oral Medicine, American Academy of Oral Pathology, and American Dental Education Association. She has presented numerous posters and abstracts, published several articles, and reviewed manuscripts for several dental journals. Dr. Shah is an advocate of organized dentistry and serves as an American Dental Association Nevada state delegate. She is also currently involved with projects involving the early detection of oral cancer through salivary biomarkers and the development of an artificial intelligence application for oral lesion diagnosis.
